Visit of the EU-Committee of the German Bundestag
From 10-12 October 2016 a delegation of the EU-Committee of the German Bundestag visited Cyprus. The delegation was headed by Gunther Krichbaum (CDU).
In the course of the visit, the delegation was received by His Excellency Ioannis Kassoulides (foreign minister), Andreas Mavroyiannis (Greek-Cypriot Chef Negotiatior), Özdil Nami (Turkish-Cypriot Chef Negotiatior), his Beatitude the Archbishop of Cyprus Chrysostomos II, Edward Tersmette (EU-Commission President in Cyprus, who was represented by Pieter van Nuffel) and Averof Neophytou (Party Leader, DISY).
Further there was a meeting with the members of the Committee of Foreign and European Affairs of the Cypriot parliament, as well as discussions with board members of the Association for Historical Research and Dialouge (AHDR) and the presidents of the four Chambers of Commerce. More discussions took place with the directors of the Center for Sustainable Peace and Democratic Development (Seed), as well as representatives of the Bi-Communal NRO Famagusta Initiative.
The EU-Committee also met for a discussion forum with students from the University of Nicosia.
The visit by the EU-Committee of the German Bundestag forms part of the regular exchange between Cyprus and Germany and contributes to strengthening the already excellent relations between the two countries.
