iversity.org launches free online courses in higher education
iversity.org: "We want to allow the best professors to teach thousands of students. On the other hand we want to enable students to take classes from the best professors around the globe."
Starting mid-October, Berlin-based iversity.org, a platform for academic online teaching, will offer its first Massive Open Online Courses, known as “MOOCs”.
Courses are taught by renowned German and international faculty and are available to students worldwide, for free. Students can choose from a variety of subjects – ranging from medicine to computer science, from business studies to physics, from law to design and philosophy (see the full course catalogue at iversity.org/courses).
Earlier this year, iversity.org launched the MOOC Production Fellowship contest. This was a call-for-applications that invited professors interested in producing a MOOC to submit concepts for innovative online teaching formats. The contest was held in collaboration with Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, one of Germany’s leading foundations addressing challenges in higher education, science and research. The objective was to show that online courses hold tremendous potential for European higher education.
Students and anyone else who is interested can now choose from dozens of courses to enrol in. Online and for free.
